You know an offense is really bad when a team is 0-3 despite their defense allowing the 5th-fewest points in the NFL. That’s the case in Houston where the Texans Offense ranks 29th in yards and dead last in scoring.

Like last season, the issue begins and ends up front. The O-line is struggling to protect C.J. Stroud, which unsurprisingly is hindering his performance and the passing game.

This was on display throughout their 17-10 loss to the Jaguars in Week 3.

First, the O-line is losing 1-on-1’s too often. Watch Josh Hines-Allen put rookie left tackle Aireontae Ersery on skates here:

Allen beat Ersery again on the final play of the game, hitting Stroud’s hand as he threw and forcing an interception:

Stroud may have had something down the seam here too:

In addition to losing 1-on-1’s, the Texans are picking up where they left off last year in terms of not being able to handle stunts.

This 3rd-and-13 was a great example. The Jaguars came out in a tilted front with 3 down-linemen to the left of the center. They also dropped linebacker Foye Oluokun down between the right guard and tackle to create 1-on-1’s across the board:
