2024 Summary (W-L Record: 10-7)
The Texans started last year with Super Bowl aspirations. As the season wore on, however, the conversation turned to which team would be lucky enough to play them in the first round of the playoffs. Houston clearly took issue with that and delivered a dominating defensive performance to win their Wild Card game over the Chargers. Unfortunately, they came up short in the Divisional Round for the second year in a row.
There were two big reasons that the Texans weren’t able to meet the high expectations set for them in 2024. The first was the injuries to the receiving corps. Stefon Diggs tore his ACL and was done after 8 games. Nico Collins missed 5 games in the middle of the season. Tank Dell then suffered a gruesome injury right before the playoffs and will miss all of the 2025 season.
Houston had visions of Diggs, Dell, and Collins being a dynamic trio in the passing game. They got just 4 games with all three in the lineup.

This certainly played a key role in the passing game’s struggles. But the bigger reason was likely the offensive line. Houston was unable to protect C.J. Stroud, finishing dead last in pressure percentage allowed and 29th in sacks. It clearly impacted Stroud, who looked like an uncomfortable quarterback for much of the season.
Luckily for Houston, their defense was very good, led by a dynamic pass rush that finished 4th in the NFL in sacks. Both of their edge rushers, Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter, finished with double-digit sacks. And the relentless pressure Houston was able to get in the Wild Card Round directly resulted in a surprise 32-12 rout of the Chargers:
